We are excited to release our first washed Ethiopian coffee this season. It stood out on the cupping table with its aromatic aroma, sweet and rich mango sweetness and classic black tea and bergamot notes. A very complex and layered coffee. The Segera washing station is owned by Daye Bensa who owns several farms and washing stations around southern Ethiopia. All coffees that are processed at the washing station is purchased by outgrowers from nearby farms. Typically these farmers own 0.5 -3 hectares of land that are all managed organically with compost, and often situated in the native forests. Varietals included in this lot is 74158, 74160 and various local landrace varietals often called “Heirloom”. This coffee is first pulped, fermented under water and washed before placed on raised beds to dry. The team at this site are very selective about the quality of this lot, selecting only the ripest cherries. The combination of great sorting, processing and slow drying makes for a very sweet and complex cup profile.
Aromatic dry aroma. Fresh ripe mango and peach. Very sweet. Black tea and bergamot. Long lasting complex and floral finish.
